A "Tsunami" of Change: Reflections from the Health & Nutrition Summit
At the end of July, I had the privilege of exhibiting at The Nutrition Academy’s Health & Nutrition Summit in Caloundra.
This year’s theme, “Tsunami of Change”, was a fitting way to describe the shifts happening in how we think about food, health, and the land that sustains us. Like a wave reshaping the shoreline, new understanding is reshaping the way many of us see nutrition.
The speakers at the summit highlighted the critical role nutrients play in every part of human wellbeing, not just physical health, but also mental, emotional and even energetic balance. Importantly, these conversations always circled back to ecology too, reminding us that the health of our planet and our people are deeply connected.

I was so proud to showcase Native Angus Beef as part of the exhibitor line-up, and heartened by the interest in our products, particularly from people who value knowing where their food comes from. Many attendees stopped to chat about our farming and animal welfare practices, our commitment to soil health, and the diverse pastures that nourish our cattle. These are the foundations of how we farm, so it was really rewarding to see that level of engagement.
To suit the facilities on offer, we brought along our biltong, beef tallow, and our Signature Tallow skin care range. The biltong was especially popular as a nutrient-dense snack - we sold out by the end of the weekend!
Beyond flavour, people were curious about the nutritional profile of our beef. It was fantastic to be able to talk to so many people about beef as an excellent source of protein, quality fats, iron, zinc, fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, and an evolving realm of secondary metabolites that science is only just beginning to uncover.
But what stood out most to me was how many attendees had already started their journey of linking health with the food they eat. Their questions reflected a genuine awareness that nutrition begins with the soil, moves through the pastures, and ultimately reaches us through the food on our plates. This is exactly the conversation we need to be having as more people connect the dots between farming practices, ecosystem health, and human wellbeing.
Events like this remind me why we do what we do at Native Angus Beef. The health of our soils, animals, and communities is inseparable from the health of the people we feed. As the “tsunami of change” in nutrition gathers pace, I believe there has never been a more important time for transparency, connection, and farming with care for the long term.
